Unit 1 Business Enterprise - P4 M4 D2 Business Plan and Research

Why should I start with the research for my business idea click here

Once you have an idea you need to do some research.  Primary research is carrying out a survey of question to find out what your customers really WANT or NEED.  This can be done as a verbal interview where you write down their replies or you could use SURVEY MONKEY or GOOGLE FORMS. Secondary research is looking at the research that’s already out there.  Remember that your research needs to focus on both the CUSTOMERS and the COMPETITION

1.    What did your PRIMARY & SECONDARY  research tell you here and here ? Did you carry out a survey? What the market thinks of your product and to help you find a price point

2.    What is your businesses product or service and more importantly what is its USP,?

3.    What is the suggested price that they would sell it for to get it on a shelf of a retail outlet?

4.    What type of promotion does your research suggest would sell it and the distribution channel it could enjoy.  Use your contacts both in and out of school to see how far the primary research can go.

5.    What does your competitive analysis for your product tell you? How does it compare to others in the marketplace?

6.    What does your SWOT analysis tell you and here

7.    If everything is looking positive you are now ready to consider writing your business plan but at the same time think about how you will present it for P6 using this worksheet here

Getting down to writing the BUSINESS PLAN click here

8.      The business plan needs to be submitted first week back after Christmas so that the DRAGONS can clearly see it before you present to them, second week back.  I have attached a few business plan examples below:

9.      Select a template from the list below that suits you or make one based on what you have discovered above

The schools own version of a very user friendly busiess plan is here

Peter Jones 90 Day Model because everything changes all the time!

The Business Plan will include all the stuff you learnt in your P3 M3 report on how it will be successful and your P5 script.so don’t repeat this if you are using a template above.  Delete that section

P3 Unit 3 Researcha nd describe the key features of three different types of UK destinations

Dear Year 12

Well done for keeping up with yourself.
The deadline that you have set yourself for today is P3 and M1 - other interim deadlines here

The assignment for this part of the unit is here

The self and peer assessment checklist for P3 is here

The resource to ensure you secure the M1 is here but feel free to discover your own sources of research.  Remember M1 is asking you to ANALYSE how ONE of the three destinations in P3 attracts and meets the needs of the four inbound and domestic tourists you looked at in P2.

For D1 you then need to make some JUDGEMENT on how effective the chosen destination has been in attracting the domestic and inbound visitors.  Find some evidence to support this. By noting any specific qualities the destination has will support this along with making any recommendations for the future so that this location can address any gaps or weaknesses in the provision

If we keep up with our interim timetable we will have all next term to secure P4 & P5 M2 & D2 and any address any corrections that you still need to make..

Well done for working so hard between lessons

P5 What legal structure will you use to set up your start up business?

Hi Year 10
Having considered the different businesses that you might like to set up we now need to consider the legal ways are available when setting up a business.
  • Today you need to use the template found in the link below to explain what each legal set up consists of and
  • Give some examples of the different types of businesses that have set up with this legal structure
  • Add the advantages and disadvantages of each type before moving on to the next legal structure

The link below will take you to a template and that's what we can start to work on next.
That will then lead us nicely into a business plan which will allow you to PASS P4 & P5 at the same time but just focus on the table at the top of this sheet.
Online resources
LTD & PLC’s
Sole Traders
Partnerships
Business ownership - general
I think a week is long enough to realistically complete P5 so don't delay get on with starting it today.
Deadline is P1 on Wednesday 31st January 2018 and P4 on Thursday 1st February.
All best wishes

P2 Unit 1 - The final task on this Unit

Dear Year 12

Here we are at the final furlong

P2 is asking you to explain the CURRENT trends that will impact on any start up business.

M2 is an extension of this and is asking you to compare how TWO of the four trends have impacted on a start up business or how they would impact (positively or negatively on yours)

This here is the template on the school system that will help you create this leaflet

This link here is a few things to consider to ensure you pass P2 first time and M2 first attempt

A few websites to help you source information on social trends is here

Remember your Merit overall for this unit comes from securing M2 which is the additional piece of work that goes into P2.  To secure M2 you need to choose TWO of the trends in P2 and COMPARE how these have impacted on a start up business.  You could consider the IMPACT on SALES, COSTS, PROFITS or other things like RECRUITMENT

To make it easier for yourself why not apply this to your own business idea that you discussed in P4

Enjoy

Mr T

Deadline for P2 & M2 is Tuesday 30th January 2018

Thursday, 18 January 2018

Unit 8 Assignment 2

Hi all,

Assignment 2 is ready to go for Unit 8 – it is learning aim B and C together so it quite long and has lots of individual elements. The teaching team still need to complete all the help sheets but you have enough to keep you going to at least January.

We have broken the challenge into manageable chunks rather than lessons – the first thing I think you should look at is the assignment brief and the following PPT which has an overview of all the tasks they have to complete in this assignment R:\Subjects\Sixth Form\Vocational Studies\BTEC Business NQF (new) Level 3\Unit 8 Recruitment and selection\Learning Aim B and C\Assignment 2.pptx

The first couple of lessons will be you completing the research part of the task for the job role you wish to apply for – part 1. R:\Subjects\Sixth Form\Vocational Studies\BTEC Business NQF (new) Level 3\Unit 8 Recruitment and selection\Learning Aim B and C\Part 1

Then it is onto completing the portfolio of evidence based on your analysis of the job role you did in the research document – part 2. We envisage this will take a number of lessons, 7 or 8? – perhaps each document could be one lesson? Or they could complete 3 over 2 lessons + independent work. We haven’t created PPTs for the documents as you did theory on this in assignment 1 however we have created a folder of templates and examples you could use R:\Subjects\Sixth Form\Vocational Studies\BTEC Business NQF (new) Level 3\Unit 8 Recruitment and selection\Learning Aim B and C\Part 2\Templates and examples for Part 2.

After that it is on to the evaluation element of part 2 – D2. This is ready to go with a supporting PPT too.

Part 3 and 4 task/help sheets will be finished by the teaching team over Christmas. I hope this makes sense and you are happy with the resources and what is required for the next assignment?

All best wishes

Top Tips from the Exam Board

"Learner needs to outline how the business environment can impact on a start-up business"

To do this properly you need to do some research and make sure that you include the references for it.

Where to research and find information:
Sources of information, e.g. broadsheet and local newspapers, professional and trade
journals, websites, business networking organisations

Make sure that the sources you use are reliable and unbiased

This resource here is a summary of what changed in the last budget.  Have a read and identify anything that might impact negatively or be some support when you consider launching your business

IMPORTANT NOTE

Hi Year 7

This term we will start to look at spread sheet modelling.

What is it and why are they so very useful?

Our first lesson is pretty much getting you used to what spread sheets are/ why they are used etc.

I think you might enjoy this as much as other units

There is quite a good classroom activity on your shared drive to do

Once you have finished that I think you might enjoy this activity also: https://www.bbc.co.uk/education/guides/zdydmp3/activity

There will be an assessment on spread sheets in the last week

Enjoy and do well
