Scenario
You
work for a well known management consultancy and have been asked to carry out
an audit on the types of information used within The Oxford Spires Academy in
order to report back to Senior Management on the range of information used; the
way in which it is used; and the appropriateness of information used in
decision making. Write a report to show the results of your investigation.
Task 4.1: INFORMATION AUDIT (P1, M1 & D1)
Your report should include
the following:
a)
A table like the
one below to show the types, sources and purposes of information used within
the organisation. Try and include at least two examples of each type of
information

N.B where possible cross reference your examples to
evidence of this in your appendices, for example, a screenshot of web-based
information or a copy of a letter (P1)
b)
Analyse the
different types of business information by explaining the range of sources they
come from and explaining how they meet their purpose (M1)
Hint: Analysis means breaking down and examining each
part in detail, so you will only achieve this criteria if you extend your
report significantly. Try to break down each piece of information and its
sources, and see if there are any connections between them.
c)
Evaluate the
appropriateness of information used to make important strategic decisions.
Choose two functions of the organisation, such as finance and marketing and
find out what sort of information each functions requires and uses (D1)
d)
Find out what
sort of strategic decisions each of these two functions make and then evaluate
whether the information they used to make these decisions is appropriate (D1)
Hint: Evaluation is about considering in detail the
advantages and disadvantages of something and coming to conclusions about this.
Try to identify the strategic decisions made by each department and then judge
whether the information they used was appropriate or not.
